The Feldenkrais Method

The Feldenkrais Method is for all people who are looking for new ways to restore or improve their movement abilities. It is aimed at healthy people who want to maintain or develop their abilities, as well as those who suffer from pain and movement limitations.

Each of us has different habits of moving. Some of the movements we perform in the course of everyday life are harmonious, correct and efficient but others can be dysfunctional and faulty. At first we are not aware of this, but at some point our body may send us a painful message that occurs due to misuse, wear and tear.

These phenomena the Feldenkrais Method aims to prevent or correct. With the help of the Feldenkrais Method you learn to be aware of yourself while developing healthy and efficient movement patterns. If we change our perception, posture and quality of movement, we also influence our thoughts and feelings.

The Feldenkrais Method can be learned and practiced in two complementary ways.

GROUP SESSION

Feldenkrais lessons in the group can be understood as movement courses from which participants with completely different prerequisites and concerns can benefit. Each lesson is rounded off, so it is possible to join an ongoing course at any time. In the group you will be guided verbally through exercises and movement sequences. You perceive your individual quality of movement, explore your movement patterns and try out alternatives. Activities such as walking, standing or sitting are thus given a new organization, which is usually experienced as easier, more stable or more relaxed. Through stimulation on different levels, your range of movement becomes more varied, your self-image more vivid. Most lessons take place lying down on a mat. The many points of contact with the floor allow a very differentiated perception, not only during the movements, but also during the breaks. But there are also lessons in sitting or standing.People of any age and any constitution can learn with Feldenkrais.

Individual lesson

Individual lesson 45-60 minutes, cost CHF 120 / hour

Individual lesson

In the individual sessions we work on your individual, personal issues and difficulties that are expressed in the musculoskeletal system. As a starting point we choose a relaxed body position on the Feldenkrais couch, free of pain for you. Less frequently, but just as possible, you may receive a lesson in a sitting or standing position. The Feldenkrais Teacher decides this after a short preliminary talk which position she considers suitable for your needs. In the preliminary talk, the focus is on what you would like to improve, rather than on medical diagnoses. Fine touches and movement impulses activate your perception. The impulses are chosen so that body parts and halves can enter into a harmonious relationship with each other. The blocked areas are addressed indirectly and directly and integrated into the movement sequences. You focus your attention completely on your experience. The conscious perception of new, economical posture and movement patterns, which can consolidate without your willful influence, makes it possible to avoid automatisms and possible pain. Individual treatment can also be used as a preventive measure to improve behavioral patterns in everyday life or in sports. People of all ages and constitutions can learn with Feldenkrais.

The founder of the method

Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais

He was a physicist, engineer, athlete, judo master, behavioral physiologist and psychologist. He developed this art of creative learning to improve and refine every movement. He was born in 1904 in today's Ukraine, emigrated, literally, at the age of 14 to what was then Palestine, studied and later earned a doctorate in physics with Joliot-Curie in Paris. He was an avid athlete, the first European to hold a judo black belt. When Moshe Feldenkrais was almost unable to walk after a knee injury, he developed a method to help himself. In doing so, he discovered the importance of learning how to learn, taking into account one's own body. From decades of research into the human learning process, Feldenkrais developed the two techniques of his method: the group class he called "Awareness through Movement" and the individual class he called "Functional Integration". Feldenkrais gained attention and recognition beyond the borders of Israel, especially when the picture of David Ben-Gurion, the first Prime Minister of the State of Israel, standing on his head on the beach in Tel Aviv, passed through the world press. It is important to know that the overweight prime minister had already suffered for decades from chronic back pain, respiratory problems and other serious health disorders, which forced him to resign early from his state office. It was not until late in life that Moshé Feldenkrais began to share his method. He first taught a small group in Israel, followed by two larger training groups in the USA in 1975 and 1980. Feldenkrais died in Israel in 1984.Today, the Feldenkrais Method is known almost worldwide due to the tireless efforts of his students.Feldenkrais teachers have undergone a mostly 4-year training approved by the International Feldenkrais Training and Accreditation Board, which prescribes certain standards.

About me

since 1989 qualified nurse HF - in various hospitals
since 2007 Diabetes specialist HF at Davos Hospital

since 2017 also in the High Mountain Clinic Davos
since 2021 Feldenkrais graduate Practitioner SFV
since 2020 Group lessons in Davos
since 2021 individual lessons by appointment

Due to my multiple sclerosis diagnosis, I met Sonja Wierk, book author ("Restored to Life") at a seminar she co-led in 2009.

This encounter motivated me to participate weekly in a Feldenkrais group, where I was able to experience again and again how beneficial each lesson was for me. This stabilized and improved my health situation.

The background of the method fascinated me more and more and so I decided to take a Feldenkrais training.

I enjoyed the training 2017- 2021 in Zurich under the guidance of Angelica Feldmann. There I further developed a fundamental understanding of movement and the functional relationships in the body.

The combination of all this is special and gives me the opportunity to work in a wide variety of ways with people and their different concerns to bring a learning and healing process in motion.
